Associate R&D Engineer 1 (Medical Devices)

Salary: $64,000–$102,350 per year

What you will do

• Design and develop orthopedic and spinal products under the guidance of senior engineers and technical leads.
• Create parametric CAD models, detailed drawings, layouts, and tolerance studies using GD&T.
• Prepare engineering documentation, technical reports, and design verification, validation, and process validation materials.
• Conduct prototype, cadaveric, design verification, and test-method development activities, including finite element analysis.
• Optimize designs for manufacturability, reduce cost, and solve design problems in existing products.
• Support surgeons, sales teams, project teams, and global regulatory registration efforts.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• 0–2 years of relevant engineering experience.
• Knowledge of concept generation, technical feasibility, design engineering, prototyping, and manufacturing processes such as milling, turning, and EDM.
• Ability to contribute to cross-functional, multidisciplinary projects and manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to identify, communicate, and help resolve technical problems.
• Ability to document work clearly and accurately, including laboratory notebook practices and confidential information handling.

Nice to have

• Experience in regulated medical device manufacturing or design.
• Experience with 2D/3D CAD, GD&T, weld specifications, DFM, and DFI.
• Knowledge of ISO 13485 design controls, ISO 14971 risk analysis, experimental design, and test method validation.
• Knowledge of surgical instrument materials, biomaterials, and mechanical design for surgical use and implantation.
• Interest in spinal pathologies, orthopedic product lines, and intellectual property.
