Package Engineer (Medical Devices)

What you will do

• Design, develop, and optimize packaging solutions for new and existing medical device products.
• Support packaging activities across clinical trials, limited market releases, global launches, lifecycle management, and commercialization.
• Develop design of experiments, package testing plans, and validation activities; analyze results and provide technical recommendations.
• Validate packaging components, equipment, and manufacturing processes while coordinating physical package integrity testing.
• Support equipment specification, sourcing, installation, qualification, supplier qualification, product transfers, and cost improvement initiatives.
• Troubleshoot packaging-related manufacturing and field issues and contribute to root cause investigations and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or equivalent university degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
• Engineering experience, including internships, co-op assignments, or entry-level engineering roles.
• Strong analytical, critical-thinking, problem-solving, communication, organizational, and prioritization skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively on cross-functional teams.
• Fluency in English required.
• Ability to travel up to 10% domestically and/or internationally to other sites and locations.

Nice to have

• Experience in medical devices, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, or another regulated industry.
• Knowledge of ASTM and ISTA package testing standards, ISO 11607-1/-2, ISO 13485, or 21 CFR Part 820.
• Familiarity with Good Documentation Practices, packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and packaging equipment.
• Experience with verification, validation, continuous improvement, SAP Product Lifecycle Management, or design of experiments.
