Mobile Automation Engineer (Appium/Java)

Location: Hybrid role based at GSIQ in Solihull, UK, with attendance required at least 3 days per week

What you will do

• Build, maintain, and scale automated tests for native iOS and Android applications.
• Develop and improve the Appium and Java mobile automation framework.
• Run tests across real devices and browsers using BrowserStack and maintain the supporting infrastructure.
• Integrate mobile automation into CI/CD pipelines to support frequent, reliable releases.
• Investigate failures, distinguish defects from flaky tests, and improve test-suite reliability.
• Collaborate with mobile developers, QE engineers, and product teams on test strategy, coverage, code reviews, and quality metrics.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience automating native mobile applications on iOS and/or Android.
• Practical experience building and maintaining Appium-based mobile automation frameworks.
• Solid Java and object-oriented programming skills.
• Experience with BDD frameworks such as Cucumber, BrowserStack or similar cloud device platforms, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Understanding of mobile app architecture and testing on real devices versus emulators and simulators.
• Strong attention to detail, quality-focused thinking, and effective collaboration across engineering, QE, and product functions.

Nice to have

• Experience with mobile performance or accessibility testing.
• Familiarity with API testing tools such as Postman or RestAssured.
• Exposure to Sauce Labs, AWS Device Farm, Firebase Test Lab, or other cloud device farms.
• Experience in e-commerce or consumer applications.
• Experience with AI-assisted or agentic testing tools.
