AI Researcher (Cybersecurity)

Location: US, Remote

Base salary: $313,000–$369,000 annually, plus equity in the form of stock options.

hirify.global is a remote cybersecurity product company developing NodeZero, a platform for autonomous penetration testing and security assessment operations.

What you will do

• Build reasoning systems that map proven attack paths and exploitation telemetry to effective security-control changes.
• Convert penetration-testing data into training and evaluation datasets, identifying why attacks succeed or fail across environments.
• Design counterfactual experiments to measure remediation effectiveness, operational cost, and generalization.
• Develop reasoning layers that operate across heterogeneous vendor APIs and security control planes.
• Design safety architecture for autonomous changes, including simulation, blast-radius classification, approval gates, staged rollout, rollback, and audit trails.
• Collaborate with attack, detection, product, and infrastructure engineers to diagnose agent failure modes and deliver production-quality systems.

Requirements

• Strong ML engineering experience building, evaluating, and deploying production AI systems.
• Hands-on experience with deep learning, transformer models, and PyTorch.
• Experience with post-training large language models or agentic systems using tools, planning, and long-horizon execution.
• Production-quality Python engineering experience, including data pipelines, distributed systems, and cloud infrastructure; AWS is preferred.
• Experience evaluating open-ended tasks, reasoning over structured real-world data, and working across models, APIs, and infrastructure.
• Master’s degree in computer science, machine learning, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience, plus 4+ years of professional engineering experience.

Nice to have

• Background in detection engineering, purple teaming, security engineering, offensive security, or incident response.
• Familiarity with EDR, firewalls, identity and conditional access, SIEM, cloud IAM, WAF, MDM, GPO, Neo4j, and attack-path analysis.
• Experience with causal or counterfactual inference, graph reasoning, planning, search, production write actions, adversarial robustness, or prompt injection.
• Experience integrating ML into production SaaS or customer-controlled and air-gapped environments.
