Tech Lead Engineer (PHP / Symfony & AWS)

What you will do

• Own technical delivery for sprint commitments, including estimation, dependency management, and blocker escalation.
• Work with the Product Owner to shape requirements, challenge scope, and turn the roadmap into a realistic technical plan.
• Mentor engineers, lead code reviews, and distribute technical knowledge across the team.
• Design, develop, and maintain PHP and Symfony backend services and secure, high-performing REST APIs.
• Drive AWS modernization using containerized workloads and services such as Lambda, API Gateway, and DynamoDB.
• Diagnose production issues, manage MySQL data-layer performance, lead bug triage, and coordinate AI spec-driven development.

Requirements

• Experience leading a team or workstream, making technical decisions, mentoring engineers, and collaborating with Product.
• Hands-on production experience with PHP, Symfony, Doctrine, and MySQL.
• Experience running AWS applications and debugging production systems with CloudWatch logs, metrics, and alarms.
• Strong REST API design skills, including security and performance considerations; GraphQL experience is beneficial.
• Strong knowledge of MySQL production workloads, EXPLAIN plans, indexing, and query optimization.
• Experience with automated PHP testing using phpspec and Behat, plus interest in AI-assisted development and spec-first workflows.

Nice to have

• Experience with RabbitMQ, Redis, SQS, SNS, or EventBridge.
• Experience with serverless services, AWS CDK or CloudFormation, and Auth0 or similar identity platforms.
• Understanding of GDPR and secure handling of sensitive data.
