Senior Ecommerce Engineer

Location: Remote from Europe, the United States, and potentially beyond. Strong preference for Poland and Croatia. The schedule must support collaboration across Central European and Pacific time zones.

Salary: $35–$48 USD per hour

What you will do

• Own the technical direction, quality, uptime, and execution of the ecommerce platform and its integrations.
• Lead substantive technical review of the Magento 2 backend and step into implementation when senior engineering judgment is required.
• Write, review, and ship frontend code using Vue 3 and Nuxt, with Sanity supporting content management.
• Own integrations across Magento, NetSuite or other ERP systems, payments, OMS, PIM, CMS, search, and CDP platforms.
• Diagnose production issues, improve monitoring and deployment reliability, and reduce technical debt through refactoring and modernization.
• Establish standards for code quality, documentation, development workflows, and eventually manage and grow the internal engineering team.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 3 years building and operating complex ecommerce platforms at scale.
• Strong JavaScript and TypeScript skills with production experience in Vue 3 and Nuxt, or comparable frameworks such as React and Next.
• Experience with headless or decoupled frontend architecture, headless CMS platforms, and multi-system ecommerce integrations.
• Hands-on knowledge of platform caching, including Varnish, Redis, or equivalent, plus CI/CD, code review, monitoring, and incident response.
• Experience working with agencies and vendors, reviewing deliverables, defining scope, and challenging weak technical recommendations.
• Must be legally authorized to work as a self-employed contractor or through a registered business in the country of residence, and able to invoice a U.S. company.
• English proficiency at C1 or C2 level is required.

Nice to have

• PHP and Magento 2 familiarity, including the ability to review backend code and architectural decisions.
• Magento frontend modernization experience with Hyvä or PWA Studio.
• Experience with Elasticsearch or Algolia.
• Early technical leadership, mentoring, or experience establishing code review practices.
