Confluent - Cloud Subject Matter Expert (Kafka)

Location: Remote within the United States; listed locations include Poughkeepsie, Lowell, Rochester, Tucson, Research Triangle Park, Armonk, Boston, Bellevue, Atlanta, San Jose, Dallas, Austin, San Francisco, and Seattle. Some travel may be required based on business demand.

Salary: $131,000–$245,000 per year.

What you will do

• Serve as the technical authority, escalation point, and design advisor for customer Kafka and Confluent Cloud platforms.
• Optimize data-streaming architectures and guide adoption of Confluent functionality and best practices.
• Design and review enterprise event-driven architectures, including topic design, schema strategy, data contracts, and integration patterns.
• Improve production readiness through monitoring, capacity planning, failure handling, operational runbooks, and change management.
• Guide security, access control, governance, risk, compliance, and audit alignment.
• Lead architecture reviews, technical workshops, incident response, root-cause analysis, and proof-of-concept development.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.
• Experience providing technical leadership for enterprise Kafka and Confluent Cloud platforms.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across distributed systems and client IT environments, including performance, reliability, connectivity, configuration, billing, and account-related issues.
• Experience designing or reviewing event-driven architectures and advising on production readiness, operational excellence, and change management.
• Ability to collaborate with development, services, field, support, engineering, platform, application, and SRE teams.
• Must be able to work without current or future visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Proficiency with Kafka Streams, Apache Flink, Schema Registry, and Kafka Connect in enterprise production environments.
• Experience delivering architecture reviews, technical workshops, and deep-dive sessions.
• Experience in regulated or highly controlled environments.
