Staff Tech Lead Software Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Onsite in Mountain View, California, United States

Salary: $251,000–$310,000 USD per year, plus potential annual bonus, equity incentives, and company benefits.

What you will do

• Build tools and systems for realistic autonomous-driving simulation across vehicle hardware platforms and driving conditions.
• Collaborate with onboard, research, simulator, evaluation, hardware, and software engineering teams.
• Improve the reproducibility, reliability, and usability of the Waymo simulator.
• Design long-term architectures that support growing internal customers and product requirements.
• Integrate vehicle subsystems with simulation infrastructure, including physics, environments, timing, and hardware models.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience building a popular internal or external-facing product.
• Backend experience with workflows, databases, SQL, and production monitoring.
• Strong C++ skills.
• Experience developing software for simulation or complex infrastructure environments.

Nice to have

• Experience releasing software in highly distributed, heterogeneous execution environments.
• Systems programming experience with game engines, databases, operating systems, or distributed systems.
• Experience with robotics, perception systems, machine learning, or performance optimization.
• Previous technical leadership experience.
