General Manager (Retail Real Estate)

Location: La Mesa, California, with responsibility for properties in La Mesa and Escondido. The role requires regular on-site inspections and management of two shopping centers.

Salary: $155,000–$185,000 per year, including base salary and applicable bonus.

What you will do

• Lead on-site property personnel and maintain operational standards across both shopping centers.
• Manage vendors and service providers covering maintenance, landscaping, housekeeping, security, utilities, waste removal, and energy systems.
• Coordinate the multi-phase Grossmont Center redevelopment with ownership, construction, design, and contractor teams while keeping the property operational.
• Build capital improvement plans, bid contracts, manage capital projects, and oversee service agreements.
• Maintain tenant relationships, resolve daily operating issues, and coordinate with marketing, tenant coordination, finance, and community stakeholders.
• Prepare operating budgets, reforecasts, variance reports, cash-flow forecasts, accounts payable activities, and other property reporting.

Requirements

• 8+ years of commercial real estate property management experience, including at least 5 years of progressively increasing responsibility.
• Experience with P&L management, budgeting, vendor contracts, financial reporting, accounts payable, and maintenance projects.
• Bachelor's degree in business administration, real estate, or a related field.
• Experience managing multiple properties and supporting active construction or redevelopment projects is preferred.
• Ability to perform on-site inspections at both properties, including extended walking or standing.
• Proficiency with property management software and Microsoft Excel and Word; JDE and Nexus knowledge is a plus.
