Platform Architect (AI)

Location: San Diego, California, United States; hybrid work with time split between home and the San Diego headquarters. Remote employees visit the main office for group events and in-person collaboration.

Salary: $188,000–$221,000 per year base salary, plus equity and other compensation.

What you will do

• Design and deliver large-scale, cross-team platform capabilities from ideation through release.
• Own architecture and non-functional requirements across performance, scalability, reliability, security, observability, and cost.
• Break architectural work into incremental delivery plans with engineering managers and product teams.
• Write, review, and defend system designs, including reversible and irreversible decisions and build-versus-buy recommendations.
• Contribute hands-on to high-complexity architecture and development work, modernization, and platform adoption.
• Mentor engineers, establish engineering standards, align technical designs, and present architecture to strategic customers.

Requirements

• Experience designing systems used by multiple teams and leading migrations or deprecations through full retirement.
• Deep expertise in at least one general-purpose application language and one infrastructure-as-code toolchain; the primary stack includes TypeScript or Python, Azure, and Terraform.
• Strong cloud-native architecture and cloud operations experience, including containerized workloads and migration to AKS.
• Experience designing relational data models and production schema evolution with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or similar systems.
• Experience with real-time or event-driven systems, cross-product integrations, versioned interfaces, compatibility guarantees, and failure isolation.
• Strong communication, mentoring, technical alignment, security ownership, and architecture presentation skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with TypeScript, React, Node, Python, Redis, Agno, Vite, uv, containers, Terraform, or Azure.
• Experience integrating AI or LLM capabilities into production systems and validating model outputs.
• Experience designing systems under regulatory constraints, including validation, audit trails, data integrity, traceability, and attribution.
• Clinical trials or regulated healthcare domain experience.
