Senior Detection Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Remote (Texas, United States). The role may require access to export-controlled technical data under ITAR/EAR and NASA regulations, with additional export-control screening. Evening and weekend work may be required for critical milestones.

What you will do

• Lead the full detection engineering lifecycle, including requirements gathering, log ingestion, KQL/SPL query authoring, and alert tuning across SIEM and EDR platforms.
• Research adversary TTPs and map detection coverage to the MITRE ATT&CK framework.
• Design normalized, searchable identity, network, and application telemetry pipelines.
• Build SOAR playbooks, detection-as-code workflows, and CI/CD processes to automate response and improve operational scalability.
• Develop monitoring for ITAR/EAR data fencing and NIST 800-53/171 controls.
• Conduct threat hunts, purple-team exercises, breach simulations, and Tier 3 forensic investigations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related technical field; equivalent experience may substitute.
• 7+ years of progressive experience in detection engineering, threat intelligence, or senior security operations.
• Eligibility for access to U.S. export-controlled technical data may be required, subject to ITAR/EAR and NASA screening.
• Experience with SIEM/EDR platforms, KQL or SPL, telemetry pipelines, threat hunting, and security automation.
• Ability to work collaboratively, solve ambiguous problems, maintain technical rigor, and meet tight deadlines.

Nice to have

• CISSP, GCIA, GCDA, GDAT, or an equivalent advanced technical certification.
• Passion for space and experience working in fast-moving, entrepreneurial environments.
