Technology Development Manager (Energy)

Location: Mt. Holly, North Carolina, United States. Hybrid work is performed from remote and onsite locations after onboarding; employees must live within a reasonable commute of a designated hirify.global facility, no greater than 50 miles one way, and attend onsite an average of 3 full workdays per regular workweek. Travel required: 5–15%.

What you will do

• Monitor emerging technology trends, market developments, and industry activity to inform strategy.
• Lead technology assessments, evaluations, valuations, road mapping, and engineering studies.
• Develop and execute pilot projects, including test plans, milestone coordination, data analysis, risk management, and performance monitoring.
• Manage partnerships with startups, universities, venture capital firms, industry organizations, and other external stakeholders.
• Support regulatory filings, industry benchmarking, communications, education sessions, and technology transfer.
• Improve innovation, project lifecycle, portfolio management, and R&D prioritization processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Engineering, or Computer Science and at least 7 years of related experience.
• A high school diploma/GED with at least 11 years of related experience may substitute for the degree; relevant master’s and PhD substitutions are also accepted.
• Experience with technology assessments, industry data analysis, business cases, project management, project controls, risk management, and performance monitoring.
• Knowledge of electric utility planning, operations, generation, transmission and distribution, customer-facing business segments, and regulatory requirements.
• Strong written, oral, presentation, analytical, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Valid driver’s license and proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools including Excel, PowerPoint, Planner, SharePoint, Power BI, and Copilot.

Nice to have

• Experience with emerging technologies such as long-duration storage, electric vehicles, distributed intelligence, robotics, artificial intelligence, energy efficiency, or demand response.
• Experience managing venture capital or external innovation relationships.
