Software Engineer (PHP)

Location: Remote - South Carolina, United States

Healthcare technology provider delivering AI-enabled practice management, electronic medical records, e-prescribing, and billing software for mental and behavioral health providers.

What you will do

• Design, build, deploy, and maintain small-to-medium features and services using object-oriented design principles, with PHP preferred.
• Own technical implementation from design through deployment with limited oversight.
• Use AI-assisted tools for productivity, debugging, test creation, and documentation while validating outputs and maintaining engineering judgment.
• Design reusable, testable components aligned with existing architecture, interfaces, and coding standards.
• Diagnose bugs and performance issues using logs, metrics, and traces, and contribute to unit and integration testing.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers during planning, estimation, backlog refinement, code reviews, and technical projects.

Requirements

• 4+ years of professional software development experience in an object-oriented language, preferably PHP.
• Strong knowledge of OOP principles, design patterns, clean code, system architecture, debugging, and observability.
• Experience with Linux-based development environments, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS3.
• Solid experience with relational databases and SQL/MySQL.
• Commitment to code quality, automated testing, maintainable design, secure coding, and responsible use of AI development tools.
• Must be located in South Carolina for this remote role.

Nice to have

• Experience with Docker or containerized environments.
• Exposure to AWS or other cloud platforms.
• Experience using AI to improve engineering workflows, including prompt design, test generation, or root-cause analysis.
