TTI Assistant Research Scientist (Transportation Research)

Location: San Antonio, Texas, United States; hybrid work with three days in a TTI Texas-based office. The first 30 days require reporting to the TTI San Antonio–Castle Hills duty station.

What you will do

• Conduct applied research on transportation infrastructure, energy, right-of-way, and utility engineering topics.
• Plan, coordinate, supervise, and document data collection, analysis, literature reviews, and research activities.
• Independently lead externally funded research projects and support projects led by other Principal Investigators.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams that include research staff, students, and support personnel.
• Prepare technical reports, memoranda, presentations, research deliverables, and sponsor materials.
• Develop research proposals, conduct sponsor outreach, and present findings at technical, academic, and conference events.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in engineering.
• At least three years of related experience in infrastructure project delivery or research.
• Ability to manage research projects from inception to completion, including sponsor coordination, budget tracking, and progress tracking.
• Knowledge of quality and unbiased research principles, with two to five publications in major peer-reviewed journals.
• Experience developing research proposals and securing contracts or grants.
• Strong verbal, technical writing, and interpersonal communication skills.

Nice to have

• Engineer in Training certification or a doctorate in civil engineering or a related field.
• Experience with right-of-way or utility engineering, transportation project delivery, relocation, or right-of-way acquisition.
• Experience with data modeling, database design, SQL, CAD, or GIS.
• Knowledge of VB, VB.NET, C#, ASP, or ASP.NET.
• Understanding of the United States transportation legislative framework.
