Sr Director, Commercial Surety Underwriting & Business Development - National Bond Center (Surety)

Location: Remote within any of the lower 48 U.S. states; travel expected. This role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization.

Salary: $157,000–$293,000 annually; expected starting range: $157,000–$262,000.

What you will do

• Lead profitable growth for the National Bond Center Small Commercial Surety West Team.
• Set underwriting strategies, guidelines, operational expectations, and authority recommendations to support production and profitability.
• Evaluate the largest and most complex surety underwriting risks and analyze portfolio and account performance.
• Develop state expansion plans, agent segmentation, marketing strategies, production goals, and budget forecasts.
• Lead underwriting file audits, improve regional processes, and support training and proficiency development for associates.
• Build relationships with key agents and large accounts, collaborate with sales and underwriting leaders, and provide market and competitive intelligence.

Requirements

• At least 10 years of surety underwriting experience, including at least 5 years of management or consulting experience preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of commercial surety and fidelity products, credit and collections, rating, underwriting methodologies, and field operations.
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate underwriting, customer service, selection, rating, and methodology compliance issues.
• Ability to manage and lead associates across surety operations and communicate effectively with leadership, sales, agents, and field or home-office teams.
• Undergraduate degree in business administration, insurance, risk management, economics, or finance preferred.
• Active pursuit of AFSB, CPCU, or another related insurance certification desired; valid driver’s license may be required.

• Familiarity with other lines of insurance business.
• Experience developing marketing materials for agent visits and conventions.
