Automation - OT Engineer

Location: Onsite in Walkersville, Maryland, US, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM EST; support for satellite offices and up to 25% travel.

Salary: $117,000–$136,500 base annual salary, plus performance-related bonus.

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership and hands-on support for Automation and OT systems across manufacturing, utilities, quality control, and laboratory environments.
• Maintain and configure DCS, PLC, EMS, BAS, LIMS, MES/EBR, recipe management, and batch record systems.
• Troubleshoot hardware, control logic, system performance, and network communication issues.
• Administer OT networks, virtualized servers, data storage, endpoint devices, IP/VLAN configurations, backups, patching, and recovery procedures.
• Support system lifecycle management, CAPEX/OPEX projects, upgrades, validation, disaster recovery testing, and data integrity assessments.
• Act as an SME during audits and inspections, support quality investigations and CAPAs, and provide technical guidance to operations, maintenance, and engineering staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, information systems, or a related field preferred, plus 5+ years of hands-on OT or industrial automation experience in regulated manufacturing or laboratory settings.
• Experience with DeltaV, Rockwell FactoryTalk, Siemens, Allen Bradley, MODA-ES, SCADA, PLC, HMI, DCS, MES/EBR, EMS, and BAS systems.
• Knowledge of Modbus, OPC, Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, VLANs, Cisco switching, firewalls, and virtual environments.
• Experience managing automation and controls projects through design, procurement, construction, validation, and operational phases.
• Knowledge of 21 CFR Part 11, GAMP, GMP, Annex 11, IEC 62443, and NIST guidelines.
• Ability to develop URSs, technical specifications, control system drawings, SOPs, and work instructions, with strong troubleshooting, documentation, and collaboration skills.
