Research Scientist II (Operations Research)

Location: Bellevue, Washington, United States

Base salary: $125,500–$190,000 per year, plus eligibility for 401(k), equity grants, and potential annual bonus.

What you will do

• Develop optimization models for outbound fulfillment, transportation planning, routing, and capacity management.
• Apply linear programming, mixed-integer programming, heuristics, simulation, and stochastic optimization techniques.
• Build predictive and machine learning models for forecasting, allocation, and network efficiency.
• Translate ambiguous business problems into mathematical formulations and scalable algorithms using large datasets.
• Partner with engineering, product, and operations teams to productionize models and integrate them into operational systems.
• Conduct experimentation and scenario analysis, communicate recommendations, and improve model performance and business impact.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or higher in Operations Research, Data Science, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
• At least 2 years of experience in operations research, data science, or applied optimization.
• Strong knowledge of mathematical optimization, probability, statistics, and algorithm design.
• Experience with Python and optimization tools such as Gurobi, CPLEX, or similar solvers.
• Experience with large datasets, distributed computing environments, and supply chain, logistics, or fulfillment operations.
• Strong problem-solving, written communication, and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

• PhD in a related quantitative field.
• Experience with large-scale transportation or e-commerce fulfillment networks.
• Experience productionizing models in cloud environments.
• Experience collaborating with product and engineering teams in an agile environment.
