Chief Accountant (USGAAP)

Location: Mindelo, Porto, Portugal; hybrid

What you will do

• Prepare monthly accounts and monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting under USGAAP, local statutory principles, tax guidelines, and company policies.
• Manage statutory annual accounts, tax returns, VAT declarations, national statistics questionnaires, 10-K reporting, and corporate tax questionnaires for two Italian entities.
• Process RTR journal entries, perform BlackLine account reconciliations, maintain supporting documentation, and complete SOX internal controls.
• Support internal and external audits, management requests, and financial and tax matters.
• Prepare balance sheet and profit and loss variance analyses and identify unusual trends or transactions.
• Improve finance systems, process documentation, controls, and accounting standardization.

Requirements

• Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• At least 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a multinational company or shared service center.
• Strong technical accounting background and experience with SAP or another ERP system.
• Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
• Excellent written and spoken English is required.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships and communicate at all organizational levels.

Nice to have

• Italian language skills.
• Strong USGAAP and local GAAP knowledge.
• Transfer pricing experience.
• Knowledge of SOX and financial reporting controls.
• Experience delivering finance systems improvements.
