Senior Engineering Manager (AI)

What you will do

• Manage engineers through regular 1:1s, feedback, performance management, promotions, hiring, and difficult people decisions.
• Plan, scope, and ship quality software against a roadmap while making delivery tradeoffs and commitments explicit.
• Improve team processes, remove recurring blockers, and help engineers take greater ownership of outcomes.
• Stay hands-on with code and architecture to make technical decisions, evaluate tradeoffs, and support engineers without becoming an approval gate.
• Lead the engineering response to customer, services, and open-source escalations, addressing recurring causes with lasting fixes.
• Improve the practical use of coding agents and AI tooling across the engineering workflow.

Requirements

• At least a couple of years managing engineers, including hiring, developing people, addressing underperformance, and making difficult people decisions.
• Strong prior engineering experience with the ability to reason about architecture and technical tradeoffs beyond individual code.
• Current hands-on software development experience and serious practical use of coding agents.
• Experience shipping at a startup and making decisions with incomplete information.
• Ability to balance long-term product work with customer deadlines, negotiate realistic commitments, and identify when services needs should become product capabilities.
• Experience with Python/Django, TypeScript/React, Postgres, Kubernetes, or comparable systems is relevant to the stack.

Nice to have

• Experience with ML tooling, data platforms, or evaluation systems.
• Experience managing a distributed team.
• Depth in frontend architecture.
