Senior Machine Learning Engineer, Public Sector (AI)

Location: Denver, Colorado; Honolulu, Hawaii; or Washington, DC, United States

Salary: $235,200–$294,000 USD per year for the Washington, DC location

What you will do

• Own the architecture, implementation, and evaluation of agent capabilities for mission-critical government applications.
• Design and deliver production systems using large language models, retrieval pipelines, APIs, memory systems, and geospatial data.
• Deploy and maintain state-of-the-art models through retraining, hyperparameter tuning, architectural updates, and inference optimization.
• Build evaluation benchmarks, LLM judges, verifiers, and tooling to improve agent performance.
• Develop scalable machine learning infrastructure and partner with product, research, government users, and subject-matter experts.
• Mentor engineers, review technical work, communicate trade-offs, and work within security and compliance constraints.

Requirements

• Active security clearance required.
• 5+ years of experience building and deploying applied machine learning systems in production.
• Extensive production experience with generative AI, agentic AI, natural language processing, deep learning, deep reinforcement learning, or computer vision.
• Strong programming skills in Python and experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and object-oriented programming.
• Experience owning architectural decisions and mentoring or reviewing other engineers.

Nice to have

• Graduate degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or Artificial Intelligence.
• Experience with AWS or GCP and cloud-based machine learning deployment.
• Experience with classified, air-gapped, or IL5+ environments.
• Geospatial or GEOINT experience.
• Experience with ML evaluation frameworks, agentic model design, inference optimization, or fine-tuning.
