Senior Software Engineer (Distributed Caching)

Location: Hybrid; must be located in San Francisco, Seattle, or the New York Metro Area

Salary: $159,800–$235,000 USD annual base pay, plus potential equity grants

What you will do

• Own high-scale caching and distributed locking services with measurable impact on cost, latency, and reliability.
• Build and scale Boulder, a KVRocks-backed key-value store, including compaction, sharding, and domain isolation.
• Re-platform the Distributed Lock Service onto a strongly consistent backend.
• Develop standardized smart caching clients with failover, retry, and observability defaults.
• Diagnose cache invalidation storms, replication lag, hot shards, and noisy-neighbor contention, then build durable guardrails.
• Collaborate with Taulu, ML Platform, and product engineering teams across hirify.global, Wolt, and Deliveroo.

Requirements

• 6+ years of full-time experience designing, building, and operating distributed stateful systems in production, including 2+ years with caching or key-value storage at meaningful scale.
• Proficiency in Go, or Java/Kotlin with deep expertise in concurrency, distributed systems, and production backend services.
• Hands-on experience with distributed caching technologies such as Redis, Valkey, or Memcached, including replication lag, failover, hot keys, and cache invalidation.
• Understanding of consistency models, sharding, partitioning, replication, consensus, capacity planning, and cost discipline.
• Experience shipping and operating reliable infrastructure end to end.
• Proficiency with AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor throughout the software development lifecycle.

Nice to have

• Production experience with ElastiCache, Memcached, or Valkey.
• Experience with KVRocks, RocksDB-family storage engines, compaction tuning, or back-pressure handling.
• Experience building or operating a distributed lock service.
• Experience with Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure operations.
• Open-source contributions related to caching, storage, or distributed systems.
