Lab Automation Engineer Specialist

Location: Ghent, Belgium; hybrid work with 4 days on site and 1 day working from home

What you will do

• Develop and maintain automation scripts for Hamilton Venus and Tecan Fluent/Evo liquid-handling platforms.
• Design workflow orchestration and establish fully automated, high-throughput processes across Discovery and Pharmaceutical Research & Technology departments.
• Support robotic platform installation, commissioning, maintenance, validation, troubleshooting, and run planning.
• Design and execute automated experiments and transform laboratory protocols into reliable automated workflows.
• Connect automation platforms with ELN, LIMS, databases, and other digital systems to enable automated data capture and transfer.
• Standardize methods, maintain documentation, train personnel, and contribute to continuous improvement and new technology evaluation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with at least 3 years of relevant experience or master’s degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience in engineering, bioengineering, computer science, or applied science.
• Programming experience with Python, R, or an equivalent language.
• Experience with commercial liquid handlers such as Tecan EvoWare, Tecan Fluent Control, Synthace, or Hamilton Venus.
• Hands-on experience with robotic systems, laboratory instrumentation, and high-throughput equipment.
• Experience with digital laboratory tools, including Benchling, Genedata Biologics, ELNs, data analysis, and visualization software.
• Fluent spoken and written English is required; the role requires working on site in Ghent 4 days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience integrating instruments with LIMS and automated data-transfer solutions.
• Knowledge of 3D modeling and additive manufacturing.
• Knowledge of AI/ML applications in pharmaceutical research.
• Experience with Spotfire, Power BI, scheduler software, or automated-platform safety requirements.
