Lead Distributed Systems Engineer (5G)

Location: New York, NY (Hybrid)

Salary: $250,000–$325,000 (for New York, NY)

What you will do

• Own the architecture and implementation of an edge data distribution system for private 5G bubbles.
• Lead and grow a team of strong distributed systems engineers.
• Define technical standards, roadmaps, and prioritization for long-term system capabilities.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product and field engineers to translate constraints into technical solutions.
• Work directly with customers to understand mission requirements and iterate on system design.
• Build services that remain functional and consistent during extended periods of offline operation.

Requirements

• Deep experience designing and operating distributed systems in production with expertise in replication, consistency, and failure modes.
• Proven experience with event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka, SQS, MQTT, RabbitMQ, Flink, or Spark).
• Strong engineering leadership experience as a manager or tech lead.
• Ability to reason about system guarantees and delivery semantics under adverse conditions.
• Excellent communication skills to bridge the gap between technical constraints and customer needs.
• Must have authorization to work in the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience building software for customer hardware, on-prem, or air-gapped environments.
• Background in backend systems for mobile devices or edge compute at scale.
• Knowledge of logical replication, CDC pipelines, or active-active database architectures.
• Familiarity with radio, telephony, SIM cards, or modems.
• Experience working with government or defense customers.
