Software Development Engineer in Test - Contract (QA Automation)

Hourly rate: $60–$80 USD.

What you will do

• Design and execute test strategies, plans, and cases across UI, API, backend, service-level, end-to-end, device, and performance testing.
• Build, maintain, and scale automation frameworks and reusable test utilities, APIs, and libraries.
• Develop testing infrastructure for automated service validation and backend quality assurance.
• Partner with engineering and infrastructure teams to define quality goals and optimize CI/CD pipelines and quality gates.
• Analyze test results, identify defect root causes, and support release readiness through quality-risk assessment and recommendations.
• Drive shift-left testing practices, quality standards, and process improvements across teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of software testing experience, including test-plan and test-case design and execution.
• 3+ years of hands-on automation experience for web, mobile, APIs, or backend services.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, or JavaScript; Python is preferred.
• Strong experience with REST APIs, service-oriented architectures, API validation, integration testing, and contract testing, including Pact or similar frameworks.
• Experience with Selenium or Appium, API testing tools such as Postman or REST Assured, and development and DevOps tools including Git, Jenkins, and Docker.

Nice to have

• Testing or development experience for phones, game consoles, set-top boxes, or other non-PC devices.
• Experience with React Native, event-driven architectures, messaging systems, test containers, mocking frameworks, or service virtualization.
• Exposure to microservices, distributed-system testing, and performance, load, or scalability testing.
