Control and Automation Engineering Trainee (PLC/DCS)

Location: Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, with work in the Sudbury office, other hirify.global offices, and project job sites including remote sites.

Salary: CAD 81,000–84,000 per year, plus potential performance-based incentives and benefits.

What you will do

• Complete control and automation engineering design deliverables independently and as part of multidisciplinary project teams.
• Prepare instrumentation and control design criteria, communication network criteria, P&IDs, engineering lists, and detailed design drawings.
• Develop procurement packages for instrumentation and plant control system equipment, including specifications, technical bid evaluations, and vendor data reviews.
• Write functional descriptions and control philosophies and program PLC and/or DCS systems according to project requirements.
• Develop factory acceptance test and software acceptance test procedures.
• Support senior engineers and designers through deliverable reviews, design and quality reviews, site inspections, and project walkdowns.

Requirements

• Working toward graduation in 2027 or recently graduated with a BASc, BEng, MASc, or MEng in Electrical Engineering or Chemical Engineering from an accredited university.
• Interest in control systems engineering and communication systems.
• Understanding of engineering and business fundamentals as applied to engineering projects.
• Ability to learn quickly, solve problems, adapt to change, and work collaboratively.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
• Willingness and ability to travel to office and construction project sites, including remote locations.

Nice to have

• Previous co-op or work-term experience in controls, automation, or electrical engineering design and execution.
• Experience with control systems design, databases, programming, data-centric design tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Active involvement in extracurricular or volunteer activities at university or in the community.
