Senior Control Engineer (Automation/Medical Devices)

Location: On-site at the Acton, Massachusetts, United States plant; domestic and international travel may be required at approximately 10%; support for 24/7 operations during off-hours may be needed.

Annual base salary: $118,700.00–$178,025.00, plus possible incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Troubleshoot complex automation issues involving sensors, actuators, networks, safety circuits, and machine vision.
• Develop, implement, and improve control systems, servo drives, motors, HMIs, and PLC programs for high-speed assembly, packaging, and process equipment.
• Develop and review wiring diagrams and control logic for new equipment, field retrofits, and equipment upgrades.
• Configure and develop machine vision systems for in-process product inspection, including cameras, frame grabbers, illumination, motion interfaces, and PC systems.
• Provide technical support for continuous improvement and Six Sigma projects, helping achieve output and yield targets.
• Plan tasks independently and collaborate with the Controls GME and Global Manufacturing Engineering teams in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

Requirements

• Experience with Rockwell Automation Allen-Bradley PLC and HMI systems.
• Knowledge of machine vision systems for in-process product inspection; Keyence or Cognex experience is preferred within this required area.
• Hands-on ability to set up ABB robot applications, including configuration, programming, and teaching.
• Extensive experience engineering, troubleshooting, and continuously improving high-volume, high-speed, high-precision assembly equipment and complex industrial systems.
• Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience, plus 5+ years of hands-on complex assembly and manufacturing equipment experience including troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
• Alternatively, a Master of Science in Mechatronics, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience, plus 3+ years of hands-on complex assembly and manufacturing equipment experience including troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of Rockwell RSLogix5000 and FTView ME and SE.
• Knowledge of VFD and servo drives, especially Allen-Bradley PowerFlex and Kinetix.
• Experience with B&R controls software and hardware.
• Experience with automation controls, high-speed component feeding, and material handling.
• Strong knowledge of servo motion control concepts and robotics.
• Statistical analysis proficiency, including hypothesis testing and regression modeling, and exposure to machine learning algorithms.
• Familiarity with Business Intelligence tools such as Spotfire, Power BI, or Tableau.
• Strong project management, organizational, documentation, communication, and report-writing skills.
• Ability to multitask, maintain focus on priorities, uphold safety standards, participate in continuous process improvement, follow business best practices, and work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
