Cloud DevOps Engineer (GCP)

Location: Hybrid, based in the United Kingdom, with occasional meetings in London or Edinburgh

What you will do

• Build and maintain cloud-based software delivery pipelines, deploy services, monitor production and non-production environments, and support incident response.
• Define cloud engineering patterns, standards, controls, and practices with engineering and technical management.
• Identify cloud inefficiencies and maintain a prioritised improvement backlog focused on cost, compute, data lifecycle, and processing efficiency.
• Automate cloud operations and improve the maturity of DevOps practices across engineering teams.
• Collect and communicate data on cloud costs and operational efficiencies for executive reporting.
• Present cloud engineering concepts and working practices across cross-functional and company-wide meetings.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of solid experience as a cloud DevOps engineer and 5+ years in build, deployment, infrastructure, or a closely related role.
• Hands-on experience with automation, infrastructure scaling, data lifecycle management, and Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or GCP Deployment Manager.
• Experience with microservices, distributed application architecture, containers, Kubernetes, or serverless technologies.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and Artifactory, Linux administration, databases, Redis, and database security.
• Experience with monitoring tools including Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK, plus networking concepts such as VPNs, DNS, load balancing, and firewalls.
• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a similar discipline.

Nice to have

• Experience with GCP and cloud services including Compute Engine, Kubernetes Engine, IAM, VPC Networks, BigQuery, Dataproc, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, Cloud SQL, Memorystore, Pub/Sub, and Iceberg.
• Experience with Airflow, Druid/Imply, Kafka, Spark, Postgres, Scylla, Docker, GitHub, and related data infrastructure.
• Programming experience with Python, Scala, C++, JavaScript, or Java.
• Experience with market and consumer research, big data, machine learning, analytics, or efficient cloud platforms.
