Head of Engineering, POS Application Platform (Android/Fintech)

What you will do

• Own the technical strategy and architecture for the Kotlin-based POS Application Platform.
• Build and govern developer tooling, shared libraries, SDKs, foundational frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, reliability standards, and observability.
• Define engineering standards and device architecture across Android POS terminals from multiple OEM manufacturers.
• Functionally lead POS engineers embedded in Payments, Onboarding, VAS, Savings, and Loans squads.
• Partner with OEM vendors and hardware teams on device onboarding, specifications, and application-layer integration.
• Build and scale the platform organisation through hiring, mentoring, governance, and developer productivity improvements.

Requirements

• 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, including 6+ years leading engineering teams through growth.
• Direct hands-on experience building software for POS terminal application layers is required; server-side POS integrations are not sufficient.
• Strong knowledge of EMV standards and payment certification processes including PCI DSS and P2PE is required.
• Deep Android engineering expertise in Kotlin and Java is required.
• Experience building internal engineering platforms, shared libraries, developer tooling, or foundational frameworks used by other engineering teams.
• Experience with multiple POS device types, OEM integrations, device management, platform engineering governance, and high-volume financial transactions in regulated environments.

Nice to have

• Fintech experience, terminal management systems, and device observability tooling.
• Backend experience with Java or Spring Boot.
• Experience working with OEM vendors on hardware specifications and integrations.
• Exposure to C or C++.

Hiring process

• Recruiter phone call.
• Technical interview focused on Android and Kotlin, followed by system design covering POS, mobile platform architecture, and payment systems.
• Technical and architectural leadership interview, followed by a CTO interview covering problem-solving, first-principles thinking, and cultural alignment.
