TL;DR
Biopharmaceutical Chemist (Analytical Chemistry/Pharmaceutical Testing): Supporting clinical drug development projects by executing in-vitro biopharmaceutics assays, preparing analytical solutions, and quantifying samples with HPLC and UV-vis, with an accent on dissolution, solubility, precipitation, and flux testing. Focus on identifying anomalous analytical results, documenting data according to ALCOA principles, and adapting experiments to changing project needs.

Location: Groton, CT, USA; candidates must live within a commutable distance. The position is Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with overtime, weekend, and holiday work as needed. Authorization to work indefinitely in the United States without restriction or sponsorship is required.

Salary: USD 25–30.5 per hour

What you will do

  • Provide analytical chemistry support for clinical drug development projects.
  • Execute in-vitro biopharmaceutics protocols, including thermodynamic solubility, USP dissolution, precipitation, and flux assays.
  • Prepare analytical solutions and biorelevant media, including accurate weighing, potency corrections, buffer preparation, and handling of active pharmaceutical ingredients.
  • Analyze study samples using HPLC and UV-vis, including calibration standards, sample processing, and drug concentration quantitation.
  • Review dissolution, solubility, and analytical data, investigate anomalous results, and document findings in electronic lab notebooks and technical reports.
  • Maintain laboratory readiness, equipment scheduling, consumables, safe practices, and shifting project priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Physical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related discipline with 2+ years of relevant experience, or a relevant master’s degree with experience.
  • Working knowledge of HPLC and UV-vis spectroscopy for quantifying organic small molecules in solution.
  • Basic proficiency in scientific data analysis, spreadsheet calculations, and chromatography data interfaces.
  • Strong written and oral communication, attention to detail, quantitative ability, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Customer-focused, adaptable, and comfortable supporting multiple project teams with shifting timelines.
  • Must be authorized to work indefinitely in the United States without restriction or sponsorship and be within commuting distance of Groton, CT.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on experience with USP dissolution, solubility, precipitation, or flux assays.
  • Experience with GraphPad Prism, Origin/OriginPro, JMP, or similar analytical software.
  • One to two years of wet-lab experience in a pharmaceutical company or contracting organization.
