Control and Automation Engineer-in-Training (PLC/DCS)

Location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada, with work in the office and at project job sites, including remote sites. Travel to project sites is required.

What you will do

• Prepare control and automation engineering deliverables, including design criteria, P&IDs, engineering lists, cable schedules, layouts, and control system architectures.
• Develop instrumentation procurement packages, technical bid evaluations, vendor data reviews, functional descriptions, and control philosophies.
• Program PLC and DCS systems according to project requirements.
• Develop factory acceptance test and software acceptance test procedures.
• Support senior engineers and designers with deliverable reviews, design and quality reviews, site inspections, and walkdowns.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on complex global projects.

Requirements

• Graduation in 2027 or recent graduation with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Chemical Engineering from an accredited university.
• Strong academic performance with extracurricular or volunteer involvement.
• Good understanding of engineering and business fundamentals, with the ability to learn quickly and take on new challenges.
• Strong written and verbal communication, organization, attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Applicants must submit an official or unofficial transcript.

Nice to have

• Interest in control systems engineering and communication systems.
• Previous co-op or work-term experience in controls, automation, or electrical engineering design and execution.
• Experience with control systems design, databases, programming, data-centric design tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
