Legal & Sustainability Associate

Location: Hybrid in Sydney or Melbourne, Australia; 3 days per week in the office, with onsite onboarding required

What you will do

• Lead the sustainability strategy, metrics, targets, reporting and communication to leadership and the Board.
• Support in-house legal work, including contract review, legal and regulatory research, compliance and practical guidance.
• Develop expertise in environmental laws, reporting frameworks and emerging sustainability-related risks.
• Manage sustainability data collection, reporting and compliance requirements.
• Embed sustainability into operations, planning, supplier relationships and business partnerships.
• Build scalable policies, templates and processes, deliver training, and manage sustainability events, awards and industry submissions.

Requirements

• Either admission to practice law in Australia with a demonstrated interest in sustainability, ESG or responsible business, or strong professional experience in sustainability, ESG or responsible business.
• Qualifications in Law, Environmental Science, Sustainability, ESG, Business or a related discipline, plus 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Ability to independently drive projects from initiation to completion with limited guidance.
• Strong research skills and ability to apply legislation, regulatory requirements and technical frameworks such as AASB S2, Modern Slavery, B Corp and APCO.
• Experience collecting, analysing and interpreting data and financial metrics for decision-making.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, collaboration and influencing skills.
