Early Development Program Lead (Small Molecule and Oligonucleotide Therapeutics)

Location: Fully remote and can be performed from anywhere; occasional domestic and international travel of approximately 10% is expected. The research facility is located in Cambridge, UK.

Salary: $255,000–$347,500 annual

What you will do

• Lead scientific and operational execution of early development programs from late lead optimization through IND.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams spanning medicinal chemistry, CMC, formulation, biology, toxicology, DMPK/ADME, translational science, regulatory, clinical, and patient advocacy.
• Integrate multidisciplinary data to support candidate selection and early Target Product Profile development.
• Manage CRO and CDMO relationships, outsourced activities, resource allocation, timelines, budgets, and risk registers.
• Facilitate decision-making, maintain accountability across matrix teams, and present program updates to senior leadership and governance committees.
• Author and review project charters, integrated development plans, regulatory briefing materials, and other key program documents.

Requirements

• PhD in Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Translational Medicine, Biochemistry, or a related discipline relevant to small molecule or oligonucleotide drug discovery and development.
• 15+ years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience with increasing responsibility.
• 5+ years of industry experience in small molecule drug and/or oligonucleotide therapeutic discovery and development.
• Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional drug development matrix teams in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology environment.
• Track record of advancing programs from lead optimization through IND and into first-in-human development.
• Experience engaging FDA and EMA in early development settings, including pre-IND, INTERACT, and Type B/C meetings.
