Associate Counsel, PM Legal and Fund Formation (Fintech)

Location: New York, New York, United States

Base pay: $200,000–$250,000 per year, plus potential performance bonus and benefits.

Global multi-manager hedge fund investing across quantitative, tactical, fundamental equity, and discretionary macro and fixed-income strategies.

What you will do

• Draft, negotiate, and interpret investment management agreements, employment agreements, deeds, and other contracts with portfolio managers.
• Handle portfolio manager onboarding and offboarding matters.
• Support fund formation and capital development, including launching investor-facing products and updating fund documents.
• Prepare and review side letters, maintain side letter logs, negotiate placement agent agreements, and assist with investor queries and communications.
• Support strategic transactions, private equity transactions, loan documents, and regulatory matters.
• Partner with senior executives, strategy heads, business development, capital development teams, outside counsel, and other advisers.

Requirements

• J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to a state bar.
• 4–6 years of experience in investment management or funds.
• Superior legal analysis, drafting, organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to prioritize urgent competing workstreams and operate independently and collaboratively in a demanding environment.
• Ability to build trust and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Interest or experience in identifying and implementing AI tools for legal work.
