TL;DR
Principal Automation Architect (Siemens PCS 7) (Life Sciences Automation): Defining and governing secure, scalable Siemens PCS 7 architectures, standards, reference designs, and reusable application libraries across automation programs with an accent on IT/OT integration, industrial communications, cybersecurity, and lifecycle design. Focus on leading complex architecture decisions, resolving cross-system challenges, and guiding multidisciplinary engineering teams across laboratory and industrial environments.
Location: Portsmouth, United Kingdom. The role requires work in office, laboratory, engineering, and manufacturing environments, as well as up to 20% travel including occasional international and overnight travel.

What you will do
- Lead solution architecture for Siemens PCS 7 across programs, products, and systems from concept through delivery.
- Define platform standards, reference architectures, implementation patterns, and reusable Siemens PCS 7 application libraries.
- Design scalable, secure, and resilient automation solutions across IT and OT environments.
- Integrate industrial communications, APIs, edge technologies, and data systems.
- Provide technical leadership for complex development programs, review design decisions, resolve cross-system architecture issues, and guide engineering teams.
- Partner with product management, engineering, cybersecurity, quality, and architecture stakeholders on technical direction, regulatory expectations, lifecycle needs, and product roadmaps.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in automation, controls, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Extensive experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, or OT architecture, including leadership of complex automation systems.
- Expert-level proficiency with Siemens PCS 7, including architecture, engineering standards, integration, lifecycle considerations, and reusable control or application-library design.
- Experience translating product, process, cybersecurity, and system requirements into scalable automation architectures across laboratory and industrial environments.
- Working knowledge of industrial communication and integration technologies, with experience directing multidisciplinary engineering teams and multiple development programs.
- Ability to work in the United Kingdom location, in office, laboratory, engineering, and manufacturing environments, and travel up to 20%.
Nice to have
- Experience with automation solutions in life sciences, bioprocessing, pharmaceutical, or other regulated industries.
- Awareness of validation and product-lifecycle expectations.
- Experience with Rockwell Automation or DeltaV.
- Siemens, cybersecurity, or enterprise-architecture certifications.
