Principal Full Stack Software Development Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote within the United States; employees may live in any of the 50 states, with limited exceptions.

Salary: $191,300–$305,700 annually in California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Washington state, and Washington, DC; $181,800–$290,400 annually in Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, Nevada, Ohio, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Virginia. The role is also eligible for equity awards.

What you will do

• Design, prototype, implement, and iterate on internal and customer-facing systems for next-generation AI applications.
• Lead small working groups building proofs of concept for agentic customer experiences and new infrastructure.
• Guide architecture and technical strategy for agentic AI across the Transaction AI organization.
• Collaborate with applied scientists, engineering, design, research, and product leadership.
• Set engineering quality standards through code reviews, mentoring, technical guidelines, interviewing, and onboarding.
• Explain backend systems and proposed technical approaches to science and organizational leadership.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building and shipping production-grade software or services.
• Strong understanding of software design patterns, principles, architecture strategy, and highly available services at Internet scale.
• Experience contributing across ETL, backend services, and product frontend development.
• Fluency in Python, TypeScript, and JavaScript.
• Experience using AI coding tools and deploying AI agents; understanding of the machine learning product development cycle.
• Ability to communicate complex technical ideas, influence across teams, navigate difficult decisions, and mentor engineers.

Nice to have

• Experience building applications with generative AI, large language models, or knowledge retrieval solutions.
• Experience collaborating with science, engineering, design, research, and product partners in a startup-style environment.
