Design Release Engineer - Instrument Panel, Floor Console, and Deco Trim (Automotive)

Location: Hybrid in Warren, Michigan; on-site at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week. The role is not eligible for relocation assistance. Immigration-related sponsorship is not provided, and candidates must already have authorization to work in the United States.

What you will do

• Design, develop, analyze, implement, and validate instrument panel, floor console, and decorative trim subsystems for vehicle programs.
• Perform engineering evaluations and concept development while balancing vehicle and occupant performance requirements.
• Package components, manage CAD development with GM designers and suppliers, and coordinate interfaces with Thermal, Electrical, Body, Chassis, Restraints, and other vehicle systems.
• Apply DFMEA, ICDs, PFMEA, DFMEA, DRBFM, FEA, CAE, peer reviews, benchmarking, and design-for-manufacturing assessments.
• Lead cross-functional product development activities, including SOR and statement-of-work development, cost optimization, configuration work, issue resolution, and supplier collaboration.
• Support vehicle launches, mentor less-experienced engineers, and capture lessons learned for future best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary and cross-cultural teams and coach other design release engineers.
• Ability to work effectively in an ambiguous, forward-thinking environment.
• Ability to lead complex projects, provide accurate time estimates, and allocate resources efficiently.
• DFSS Greenbelt certification must be obtained within one year of hire.
• DFSS Blackbelt certification must be obtained within two years of hire.

Nice to have

• 10+ years of automotive engineering experience developing and executing technical solutions for new vehicle programs.
• 10+ years of experience with injection molding, skin forming, wrapping, and similar interior component construction processes.
• 10+ years of experience applying CAE analysis results to optimize performance.
• 10+ years of experience or knowledge in manufacturing techniques and material sciences for interior components.
• 10+ years of experience with engineering tools such as GD&T, DFMEA, SOR, and Change Orders.
• Ability to navigate and execute Math Data Viewing and Analysis and Engineering Change Release.
• Demonstrated leadership in vehicle component packaging, making tradeoffs, and negotiating with cross-functional partners and suppliers.
