Lead Applied AI/ML Data Scientist (Automotive SaaS)

Base salary: $180,000 per year

What you will do

• Own classification, prediction, and other applied machine learning approaches for complex automotive data.
• Design, build, launch, and continuously improve production AI/ML capabilities.
• Develop grounded LLM and agentic applications using retrieval architectures, tool use, and domain-specific model adaptation.
• Define evaluation frameworks and production metrics for traditional and generative AI systems.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Data Engineering, and MLOps to establish deployment, monitoring, retraining, and lifecycle requirements.
• Shape the AI roadmap by assessing feasibility, data readiness, customer value, and implementation complexity.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in data science, applied machine learning, or a closely related discipline.
• Deep expertise in traditional machine learning, classification, feature engineering, class imbalance, experimental design, and model evaluation.
• Demonstrated experience shipping and improving AI/ML capabilities in commercial products used by real customers.
• Production experience with LLMs, agentic frameworks, retrieval architectures, grounded AI, and transformer model adaptation.
• Expert-level Python, strong SQL, large datasets, cloud data warehouses, and modern cloud-based data and ML ecosystems.
• Master's degree in a quantitative discipline or equivalent practical experience, plus strong technical communication and influence skills.

• Experience with automotive, dealership, or fixed operations data.
• Experience with complex operational records, industry-specific taxonomies, or proprietary datasets.
• Experience with cloud-managed AI/ML services and production model lifecycle practices.
• Experience designing or governing large-scale expert labeling programs.
