Platform Support Database Administrator III (AWS)

Location: Toronto, Canada; hybrid work environment with in-person orientation

Salary: CAD 99,000–124,000 base salary per year

What you will do

• Own database-related incidents and service requests, ensuring timely resolution and customer satisfaction.
• Administer and support Oracle RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server across AWS EC2, RDS, and Aurora multi-AZ environments.
• Perform performance tuning, root-cause analysis, production troubleshooting, and database design recommendations.
• Manage database setup, configuration, security hardening, monitoring, backup, restore, and lifecycle operations.
• Handle Salesforce queues for schema and security changes, script execution, and non-production refreshes while coordinating controlled deployments through Jira.
• Create runbooks, knowledge base articles, and troubleshooting documentation, and collaborate with application, infrastructure, development, support, and customer teams.

Requirements

• Hands-on production experience administering large-scale relational databases, including at least two of Oracle, Aurora PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server.
• Strong knowledge of AWS RDS, Aurora, EC2-hosted databases, backup and recovery, monitoring, security, and multi-AZ deployments.
• Experience troubleshooting locks, deadlocks, slow queries, memory contention, I/O contention, and other complex SQL and database issues.
• Experience with Salesforce request queues, Jira change control, documentation, and approval processes.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, customer focus, and knowledge-sharing skills.
• Comfort working in a hybrid environment and coordinating across time zones to support global customers.

Nice to have

• Experience with SaaS, cloud platforms, high-availability production environments, enterprise software, FinTech, or InsurTech.
• Automation and scripting experience with Python, Shell, PowerShell, or similar tools.
• Knowledge of encryption, access controls, audit logging, NIST CSF, CI/CD, and database release pipelines.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
