Backend Tech Lead (PHP)

Location: Vilnius, Lithuania; 4 days onsite and 1 day remote. Workspaces are also available in Klaipėda and Riga, with arrangements depending on the specific position.

Salary: €5,500–€6,500 gross per month

What you will do

• Define technical strategy and architecture across multiple products and brands.
• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 3–4 backend engineers.
• Design and review systems for scalability, maintainability, reliability, and performance.
• Develop hands-on solutions using PHP, Laravel, and Laravel Nova.
• Monitor production systems, resolve incidents, reduce technical debt, and implement safeguards.
• Improve engineering processes, track technical health metrics, and collaborate with frontend, QA, and product teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend development experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with PHP and Laravel.
• Strong understanding of system architecture, database design, and API design.
• Experience with production monitoring, incident response, and performance tuning.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum and the ability to manage and grow a backend engineering team.
• Ability to use AI tools in coding workflows and independently identify, prioritize, and execute work.

Nice to have

• Experience with Laravel Nova.
• Experience with queueing and event-driven systems such as SQS or Redis.
• Experience with e-commerce or high-traffic web products.
• Experience with AWS, GCP, or similar cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines.
