TL;DR
RF Design Engineer (Quantum Hardware) (RF/microwave engineering, PCB design, and 3D quantum hardware): Designing critical microwave components, high-density PCB layouts, and packaging solutions for next-generation quantum processors with an accent on impedance matching, insertion loss, cross-talk, and vertical chip-to-board interconnects. Focus on building full-wave electromagnetic simulations, characterizing RF systems with VNA equipment, and automating design generation and design-rule checks with Python.
Location: Delft, Netherlands; on-site with a hybrid setup

What you will do
- Design critical electromechanical and microwave components for large-scale quantum processors.
- Develop PCB layouts, silicon chip layouts, and PCB-to-chip interconnects within the vertical VIO architecture.
- Address insertion loss, impedance matching, and cross-talk challenges at PCB and package levels.
- Collaborate with simulation specialists to validate models and improve chip- and board-level designs.
- Create Python scripts that automate design generation and integrate designs into the codebase.
- Implement design-rule checks to ensure components are correct and manufacturable.
Requirements
- MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering with a focus on RF or microwave engineering.
- At least 4 years of hands-on RF engineering experience in deep-tech or low-volume hardware environments.
- Strong knowledge of RF link budgets, S-parameters, complex impedance analysis, Smith Charts, and matching networks.
- Experience with full-wave 3D electromagnetic solvers such as Ansys HFSS or Q3D.
- Practical experience with RF testing and measurements using a VNA and related laboratory equipment.
- Ability to work in Delft, Netherlands, in an on-site role with hybrid flexibility.
Nice to have
- Experience designing filters, couplers, attenuators, or other circuit-level components.
- Background in high-density interconnects, high-frequency flex interconnects, 3D packaging, or advanced integration.
- Familiarity with superconducting technologies.
- PCB layout experience with KiCad, Altium Designer, or Cadence.
