Short Term Forecasting Data Scientist (Energy Trading)

Location: Rotterdam, Netherlands

Salary: €88,000–€125,000 gross annual, including FlexBudget and 8% holiday allowance; bonus or collective profit sharing may apply depending on the role.

What you will do

• Monitor forecast results, identify irregularities and performance issues, and provide clear information to short-term traders.
• Investigate and resolve incidents involving models, systems, forecasts, and data flows.
• Develop, improve, and validate forecasting models for wind and solar production and power, gas, and heat consumption.
• Build monitoring and reporting products that support energy trading decisions.
• Work with the Forecast Product Development team to turn operational insights into structural improvements.
• Contribute to a DevOps environment using Databricks, Python, SQL, Azure DevOps, and CI/CD.

Requirements

• Quantitative MSc degree.
• At least 4 years of relevant data science experience.
• Strong Python and SQL skills.
• Analytical, critical, pragmatic, and hands-on approach with attention to robust, maintainable solutions.
• Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical colleagues and work effectively with traders and other teams.
• Flexibility to adapt priorities to changing market conditions and business opportunities.

Nice to have

• Experience with energy markets, trading, software engineering, or machine learning engineering.
• Knowledge of DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing, MLOps, Git, Databricks, Airflow, Snowflake, or Azure Cloud.
