Vice President, Biologics Research (Protein Engineering)

Location: Onsite in New Hampshire, United States, with flexibility for some remote work. Occasional travel of approximately 5%–15% is required.

What you will do

• Define and drive the long-term scientific strategy for biologics research in alignment with corporate and portfolio objectives.
• Provide scientific leadership across therapeutic targets, protein engineering, biologics modality selection, discovery, design, and development.
• Oversee discovery and preclinical milestones, including screening cascades, molecular design, candidate selection, and IND-enabling studies.
• Integrate computational biology, data science, experimental research, laboratory automation, and AI-enabled workflows.
• Support first-in-human readiness and collaborate with Clinical, Technical Operations, Toxicology, DMPK, Translational Bioanalytics, and Regulatory functions.
• Recruit, lead, and develop a biologics research organization of more than 50 scientists and staff across multiple research sites.

Requirements

• PhD or equivalent degree and 15 years of experience in biopharma or biotech R&D with progressive leadership responsibility.
• Deep expertise in protein engineering and knowledge of adaptive immunology, including human CD8+, CD4+, and B-cell responses to protein antigens.
• Experience with biotherapeutic drug development, in vivo pharmacology, PK/PD strategy, preclinical CMC support, toxicology and safety assessment, and first-in-human translation.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering high-impact programs in a matrixed, fast-paced environment.
• Strong executive communication, scientific judgment, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with computational protein design and AI/ML-enabled protein design technologies.
• Experience with AAV viral vector engineering, AAV gene therapy discovery, computational biology, data science, or research bioprocess development.
