Principal Equipment Development Engineer (MedTech Surgery)

Location: Cincinnati, Ohio, United States; hybrid work with on-site presence three days per week. Up to 25% domestic and international travel may be required. Open to candidates willing to relocate.

Base pay: $117,000–$201,250 per year.

What you will do

• Lead the technical development, debugging, characterization, commissioning, and qualification of automated assembly processes.
• Provide automation leadership to equipment development engineers and coach the team in technical mastery, collaboration, and problem solving.
• Collaborate with equipment integrators, manufacturing plants, NPD teams, and technical partners to move solutions from concept to stable production.
• Develop controls strategies and deliver automated assembly lines meeting throughput, uptime, scrap, staffing, schedule, and budget requirements.
• Negotiate technical trade-offs with internal stakeholders and external partners.
• Ensure projects comply with EES policies and applicable GMP, ISO, and MDD requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
• 12+ years of experience in a dynamic R&D environment, with emphasis on production line development, commissioning, and qualification.
• Experience in medical device production or another regulated industry.
• Extensive experience applying Design for Assembly principles and developing automated or semi-automated assembly processes for complex devices with plastic, metal, and electrical components.
• Experience leading equipment debug, characterization, FAT, and qualification activities, and resolving assembly requirements with stakeholders and equipment integrators.
• Ability to travel up to 25%; strong communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and influencing skills.

Nice to have

• Process Excellence or Six Sigma knowledge.
• Experience with vision systems and controls development.
• Knowledge of automated mechanical force and torque testing and electrical continuity and hi-pot testing equipment.
