Member of the Technical Staff, Internal Agent (AI)

Location: San Francisco, California, United States

Salary: $208,000–$312,000 annually base pay in San Francisco, with compensation adjusted based on employee location.

What you will do

• Design and build V, an internal agentic interface for answering questions, analyzing data, and executing complex multi-system workflows.
• Develop agent architecture for intent understanding, planning, tool selection, failure recovery, and reliable long-running tasks.
• Build polished experiences across Slack, web, and other product surfaces.
• Create evaluation, observability, and feedback systems to measure accuracy, usefulness, efficiency, and trustworthiness.
• Establish reusable primitives that allow teams to add capabilities without creating fragmented agents or inconsistent experiences.
• Help define how companies can be operated through agents and turn internal learnings into infrastructure for Vercel customers.

Requirements

• 7+ years of full-time software engineering experience.
• Strong TypeScript proficiency.
• Experience working across conversational interfaces, interactive data experiences, APIs, queues, databases, permissions, and production infrastructure.
• Understanding of AI interaction quality, including context selection, tool use, memory, latency, generated interfaces, uncertainty, progress communication, and escalation.
• Openness and adaptability when working with unfamiliar technologies, domains, and responsibilities.

Nice to have

• Experience using or building agent harnesses such as OpenClaw, Hermes, or Pi.
