Head of Technical Training (AI)

Location: Based in San Francisco or willing to relocate to the United States; in the SF office whenever an instructor-led program is in session, typically 3–4 days per week.

Annual salary: $1–$2 USD.

What you will do

• Deliver hands-on technical instruction for onboarding and residency programs, from small labs to large field-readiness sessions.
• Hire, onboard, manage, and develop technical instructors while defining performance expectations.
• Set instructional quality standards through observation rubrics, dry-run protocols, and cleared-to-teach processes.
• Design train-the-trainer programs and certify internal experts, contract instructors, and training-partner facilitators.
• Partner with Technical Enablement, onboarding, and Training & Certification teams to turn technical content into effective sessions, labs, and exercises.
• Measure learner outcomes and instructor quality, then use the results to improve delivery and content.

Requirements

• 8+ years of relevant experience across software engineering, solutions engineering, developer advocacy, technical education, or related technical roles.
• 4+ years of hands-on technical instruction for engineers in live settings and across different audience sizes and technical levels.
• Production engineering experience writing and shipping code, with credibility in architecture, implementation, debugging, and technical tradeoffs.
• Recent hands-on AI development using LLM APIs, agent frameworks, tool use, MCP, or similar technologies.
• Experience managing technical practitioners, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and development while continuing to teach.
• Experience designing or running instructor development, train-the-trainer, certification, observation, or quality-evaluation systems.

Nice to have

• Portfolio of technical sessions, labs, courses, rubrics, certifications, or train-the-trainer programs.
• Experience building an instruction or developer-education function from scratch.
• Experience managing contractor or vendor-supplied instructors or certifying instructors across regions.
• Experience with Claude Code or comparable agentic coding tools, and with the Claude Developer Platform through Amazon Bedrock, Google Vertex AI, or Microsoft Foundry.
• Public speaking, conference workshops, developer advocacy, or deep enthusiasm for responsible AI.
