Lead Technical Instructor (AI)

Location: New York City, NY. Hybrid role requiring work from the NYC office whenever instructor-led programs are in session, typically around three days per week, with approximately 25% travel to San Francisco and Europe. Anthropic expects staff to work from an office at least 25% of the time.

What you will do

• Deliver hands-on technical instruction for onboarding, residency, and technical enablement programs in person and remotely.
• Teach technical practitioners ranging from small interactive labs to groups of more than 100 participants, adapting to varied experience levels.
• Run train-the-trainer programs for internal experts, contract instructors, and training partners.
• Coach and calibrate instructors through live and recorded observations, structured feedback, and readiness recommendations.
• Partner with technical experts to develop sessions, labs, exercises, and demonstrations, then improve content using learner and instructor data.
• Own instructional quality, staffing, instructor standards, and delivery consistency across assigned programs.

Requirements

• At least 6 years of relevant experience in software engineering, solutions engineering, developer advocacy, technical education, or another technically deep role.
• At least 3 years of hands-on technical instruction for engineers in live in-person and remote environments.
• Production engineering experience, including writing and shipping software and discussing architecture, implementation, debugging, and technical tradeoffs.
• Recent hands-on AI development experience within the past three years, including LLM APIs, agents, tool use, MCP, or related technologies.
• Experience developing instructors through observation, structured feedback, practice teaching, or train-the-trainer programs.
• Must be located in New York City or willing to relocate; regular NYC office attendance and travel are required.

Nice to have

• Experience with instructor certification, observer calibration, or train-the-trainer programs.
• A portfolio of technical sessions, labs, courses, and reusable teaching materials.
• Experience teaching across time zones or to European audiences.
• Experience with Claude Code, comparable agentic coding tools, or the Claude Developer Platform through major cloud infrastructure.
• Public speaking, conference workshop, developer advocacy, and responsible AI experience.
