Director, Technical Revenue Accounting

Location: San Francisco, CA, United States. Hybrid policy: staff are expected to work from one of the offices at least 25% of the time, with some roles requiring more office time.

Annual salary: $230,000–$300,000 USD.

What you will do

• Own the ASC 606 technical accounting memo portfolio, including complex revenue recognition scenarios and standalone selling price studies.
• Lead revenue assessments for new products and programs, covering performance obligations, standalone selling prices, and contract modifications.
• Partner with Deal Desk, Sales, Legal, Product, Pricing, and Partnership teams on non-standard commercial arrangements.
• Guide accounting for cloud marketplace, reseller, partnership, revenue-share, and co-sell arrangements, including principal-versus-agent determinations.
• Manage revenue contract review frameworks, month-end close reviews, disclosures, allocations, amortization, incentives, and rebates.
• Lead technical research, process improvements, and revenue system implementation projects, including design sign-off and UAT ownership.

Requirements

• Experience authoring technical accounting memos for complex, judgment-intensive revenue arrangements.
• Strong knowledge of ASC 606, including performance obligations, standalone selling prices, contract modifications, material rights, variable consideration, and principal-versus-agent analysis.
• Hands-on experience with revenue recognition tools such as Workday Financial Management or Zuora RevPro.
• SQL proficiency for querying and analyzing large revenue and contract datasets.
• Ability to lead cross-functional workstreams and communicate complex accounting positions clearly in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; CPA required, with preferred experience including 14+ years in accounting and 4+ years in technical revenue leadership or management.

Nice to have

• Big Four technical accounting or national office experience combined with industry experience.
• Technical accounting advisory, revenue recognition consulting, or implementation experience.
• Experience with cloud marketplaces, reseller or channel partnerships, and consumption-based or subscription-based revenue models.
• Knowledge of AI/ML, SaaS, and technology-sector revenue recognition complexities.
