R&D Engineer – Equipment Development and Automation (Robotics)

What you will do

• Develop mechanical and mechatronic equipment for precision optical assembly.
• Create CAD models, drawings, specifications, mechanisms, fixtures, and machine assemblies.
• Select and integrate motion stages, actuators, cameras, sensors, optics, and other equipment components.
• Develop automated sequences for loading, positioning, alignment, processing, and verification.
• Create control software for equipment operation, instrument communication, data collection, and process reporting.
• Build, commission, calibrate, troubleshoot, validate, and transfer equipment into manufacturing.

Requirements

• Engineering fundamentals applicable to real machines and hardware.
• Practical CAD experience and understanding of mechanisms, tolerances, materials, and manufacturing methods.
• Interest or experience in automation, robotics, motion control, sensing, or machine development.
• Programming experience with Python, C++, C#, LabVIEW, PLC environments, or a similar engineering platform.
• Hands-on experience building, testing, and improving equipment, including university projects, internships, competitions, employment, or serious personal projects.
• Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate across mechanical engineering, software, optics, and manufacturing.

Nice to have

• Experience with precision mechanics, optomechanical design, machine vision, active alignment, motion systems, laboratory equipment, or production automation.
• An example of a technically demanding system, machine, or device designed, built, programmed, or improved, supported by drawings, photographs, code, reports, or test data.
