Lead Data Engineer

Location: Fully remote with flexible hours; work in the European time zone with occasional calls with US clients.

What you will do

• Design data warehouses and pipelines end to end across 2–3 client projects.
• Make architectural decisions, evaluate alternatives, and defend technical choices with clients and engineers.
• Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines with CI/CD for data workflows.
• Set engineering standards through code reviews, technical talks, SQL and Python conventions, and Claude Code configuration.
• Handle technical client communication, including calls, written updates, and scope discussions.
• Document systems and mentor mid-level engineers so client teams can operate the delivered solutions.

Requirements

• 5+ years of data engineering experience, including ownership of at least one data warehouse from design through production.
• Production-grade SQL and Python experience.
• Hands-on experience with BigQuery and Airflow 2.x or a comparable orchestrator.
• Practical judgment on ClickHouse, Kafka, S3, and dbt, including when to use or avoid them.
• Production experience with an agentic coding tool and the ability to make architectural decisions independently.
• English at B2 level or above is required for client calls.

Nice to have

• Experience mentoring or leading code reviews for junior and mid-level engineers.
• Public technical work such as repositories, case studies, or talks.
• A tuned Claude Code or other LLM setup using CLAUDE.md files, slash commands, or sub-agents.
