Java Software Engineer (Material Flow Systems) (Java/logistics automation): Developing and deploying software applications that control and visualize automated parcel sorting facilities and logistics hubs with an accent on scalability, efficient algorithms, and reliable operations. Focus on optimizing complex software, deploying applications in Kubernetes environments, and resolving performance issues for major parcel carriers.
Location: Algés or Maia, Portugal; remote work option available. Occasional travel to customer sites worldwide and team meetings in Portugal and Germany, typically less than 10% of working time.

What you will do
- Develop and maintain Java applications controlling and optimizing automated parcel sorting systems and logistics hubs.
- Design, implement, deliver, and support software applications for major parcel carriers.
- Optimize applications for speed and scalability through efficient algorithms.
- Troubleshoot software defects and performance issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to development process improvements.
- Track industry trends and incorporate relevant technologies into software development.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 4+ years of professional experience, including at least 1 year of hands-on Java development with Java as the primary language.
- Experience developing or deploying applications in Kubernetes-based environments.
- Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, software architecture, and object-oriented design.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation.
- Excellent English skills in written and spoken communication; occasional international travel is required.
Nice to have
- Experience with C# or C++.
- Experience in logistics, warehouse automation, industrial automation, or material flow systems.
- Experience delivering software projects in professional, academic, or personal settings.
